Osteomyology can mean different things to different people, as all practitioners are different and all have differing specialities. To me, Osteomyology is the unique integration of ‘parts’. Unique in that every Osteomyologists’ integration is different in some way, each and every one of us has a unique set of ‘parts’ that come together to make the practitioners that we are. Each has his or her own specialty or expertise to offer whilst giving us all the same eventual goal, that of healing.
Osteomyology offers true holistic care; it is a system of health care which fosters a cooperative relationship among all those involved, leading towards optimal attainment of the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of health.
It emphasises the need to look at the whole person, including analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social, spiritual, and lifestyle values. It encompasses all modalities of diagnosis and treatment by highly trained, qualified practitioners who constantly strive to ensure that they are at the forefront of their profession, offering the very best that any health care profession can and referring back to other medical specialists if no safe alternative exists. Osteomyology focuses on education and responsibility for personal efforts to achieve balance and well-being, emphasising the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts.
The Osteomyologist recognises that patients’ discomforts or pains are merely symptoms of an imbalance. The imbalance could be a physical issue, the result of abusing the physical body through an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, or too little sleep. Or, the imbalance may be the result of mental, emotional, or spiritual needs not being met. No aspect (mind, body, spirit, or emotions) of a person is overlooked when an Osteomyology treatment is sought.
The Osteomyologist looks at the “whole person” in order to make his or her complete evaluation and uses all information gathered before suggested treatments to the patient are offered.
This is the common thread running through all our lives and activities. Maybe you’re not finding things as easy as they used to be or as you think they should be.
A sporting injury maybe, lack of mobility or a bad back. Whoever you are and whatever your condition, you can improve.
Osteomyology, breaks down to Osteo (bone) myo (muscle) ology (study of) so, taken literally, it is the study (and specialisation) of bones and muscles.
The application of this knowledge of the body gives rise to a wide range of physical therapy techniques which are utilised and refined constantly by the Osteomyologist.
